Masturbation May (and how that links to Mental Health awareness)

Masturbation May- it’s a real thing.

Apparently, this annual event started in 1995 in San Francisco as a response to the forced resignation of the then-Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders. She had suggested that masturbation should be included in the sex education curriculum as a means of preventing unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

Coincidentally, it also happens to be Mental Health Awareness month.

I don’t actually believe in coincidences.

Guilt and shame wreak havoc on our mental health. I thought I had committed one of the most forbidden sins when I had my first orgasm… at 18. I was completely paralyzed by shame. It destroyed my mental health, my self love, and overwhelmed me with guilt.  It caused years of mental health struggles.

Mental health struggles and sexual health struggles are absolutely intertwined.

And this is one of the many reasons I am so passionate about advocating for holistic, healthy, pleasure practices.

For this entire month, I’ll be sharing habits to enhance your self pleasure practice and support you in clearing any residual guilt or shame you carry around this.

YOU deserve to know the full experience of pleasure in your body!

Stay tuned for next week’s self pleasure practice to try.
