Jaw Tension and Orgasms

Is jaw tension holding back your Os?

Ok stay with me.

Do you struggle from jaw tension? Do you grind your teeth when you sleep? Do you clench your jaw at random times? Do you also struggle to orgasm? Do you find it’s hard for you to ‘let go’ during sex? Do you feel like you almost get there, but can’t quite go over the edge?

These could ALL be related.

Jaw tension, in general, refers to the sensation of tightness or discomfort in the muscles that control jaw movement. It’s super common and affects people of all ages; it can be caused by a variety of factors.

One of the most common causes of jaw tension is stress. When we are stressed or anxious, our body tends to tense up, including the muscles in our jaw. Another factor that can contribute to jaw tension is poor posture (yeah, I sat up a bit straighter when I read that too). Over time, jaw tension can become chronic and lead to pain, discomfort, and even difficulty opening or closing the mouth (which obviously could cause other issues in and out of the bedroom).

Anatomically, your neck and jaw muscles are directly connected to your pelvic floor muscles. In his book Anatomy Trains, Tom Myers explains how the muscles of the jaw are connected to the pelvic floor (and more) through the myofascial meridian he refers to as ‘the deep front line’.

I did some research into the recommended treatment for jaw tension. You’re not going to believe this: the most effective treatments to alleviate symptoms of jaw tension are to practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga (literally can’t make this up).

So if you are struggling with jaw tension, the recommendations for treatment are the same as if you are struggling from low libido or issues with orgasm.

Coincidence? I think not.

I have a few suggestions to treat this that I’ll be posting later in the week, but in the meantime, if you’ve had a huge ‘ah ha’ moment, go check out the blog posts about Breath and Meditation for better sex and start to implement one of the practices now!
