More Meditation Practices to Transform Your [Sex] Life

On an average day now, I simply set a timer and sit until I hear the bell. So music, no guides, just silence. Sometimes I peak to see how much time is left, sometimes I loose all track of time. If all these different styles of meditation don't work for you, I totally recommend a simple timer. With repetition, you really start to feel that the ‘silence is golden’.

If you're down to try new styles, here are a couple more that I super love.

Body Scan Meditation

Body scan meditation involves focusing your full attention on different parts of your body. This practice helps you relax, become more aware of your body, and release tension. This is powerful because we spend so much of our day ‘in our heads'. Dropping into the physical sensations of our body is an effective way to enhance sexual experiences by increasing your body awareness and sensitivity.

To practice body scan meditation, follow these steps:

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.

  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax, preferably in and out through your nose.

  3. Start by bringing your attention to your toes. Focus on any sensations you feel in your toes, such as tingling or warmth. All of your attention goes to your toes.

  4. Slowly move your attention up your body, one body part at a time. Focus on each individual body part for a few seconds before moving on to the next one.

  5. As you move your attention up your body, release any tension you feel in each body part without moving that area.

  6. When you reach the top of your head, take a few deep breaths and relax.

Practicing a body scan meditation regularly will enhance your sexual experiences by improving your ability to stay focused on sensations in your body, rather than mentally wrestling with your thoughts.

Body scan meditation will also increase your sensitivity to touch and enhance your overall body awareness. Conditioning your mind to stay present in your body allows you to release tension in and out of the bedroom which leads to increased physical sensitivity and sensuality during sex and intimacy. Additionally, body awareness can help increase your confidence and comfort with your body, which has obvious benefits in and out of the bedroom.

Japa Meditation

Japa meditation is a type of meditation that involves repeating a mantra or phrase. I LOVE to do this with a mala necklace. This style of meditation gives your mind so much to do. The sound of the mantra helps with presence, using a mala gives you something to do with your hands, and the mantra gives a point of focus for the mind. This practice helps you relax, focus your mind, and increase your awareness of the present moment- all which benefit you during intimate moments.

To practice japa meditation, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a mantra or phrase that resonates with you. This could be a word or phrase that holds personal meaning, or a traditional mantra such as "Om". If you're focused on increased pleasure, use the seed mantra ‘Vam' (said vuhm) which is the sound to represent ‘I feel’ or sacral energy.

  2. Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.

  3. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax, preferably in and out through your nose.

  4. Begin repeating your mantra or phrase, either out loud or silently in your mind. Focus your attention solely on the sound and vibration of the words. As you create the sound, mentally or aloud, touch one bead on your mala necklace- one bead for each repetition.

  5. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your mantra.

Practicing japa meditation regularly will help you become more present and focused. It also uses the power of mantra to instill more connection to the energetics of pleasure as you meditate. If you are more sensitive to subtle energy, this might be the meditation style for you.

Ok, look at your schedule for the rest of the day and BLOCK OFF TIME FOR MEDITATION. I am personally the queen of ‘oh I’ll set my alarm and do that early tomorrow' then hitting snooze fifty times. Don't be like me 😆  make this a priority and start your meditation practice today!!
